Mira's Art JOURNAL

Morning Routine:
Every morning I wake up to the constant chaos of the bustling Broadway Street. John Cage’s composition “4 '33” explains to the music world that there is never silence and every sound contributes to the human experience. My composition follows a Stoner’s (NOT ME) grinding (pun intended) routine of waking up from an apartment on the hill, grabbing belongings from their car, crossing the street, entering a building with an elevator, walking into work and last, but not least, making their first cup of coffee. I used around 20 sounds, as I realized 10 sounds is not enough material to cover 4 minutes and 33 seconds. Every time I incorporated the bubble noises (from smoking a bong) I made the sounds less realistic and more obscured. I played with many effects, reversed tracks, and overlapped tracks. This was my first time using sound-editing software, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process! While editing the effects I was confused about every little button to click on and it made me realize how much I have to learn. This project sparked a new interest- creating digital music. Although the final audio is not as smooth as I envisioned, I feel the audio is successfully conveying the story I wanted to tell. I am excited to continue experimenting with sounds for our next animation video project. Incorporating visuals alongside audio could allow for some really cool art to be made. These skills remind me of all the amazing art I’ve seen at Meow Wolf!
