Mira's Art JOURNAL

Zines; An amazing and expressive art form to plot down ideas - My informal definition.
In my art career, I have learned about and made many Zines (ranging from summer camp art activities, high school classes, and every studio-based art course at CU Boulder). As I navigate college, I find myself reflecting on who I am and who I want to be. Growing up, as an adopted Guatemalan in New Hampshire, I never wanted to be different. I did not let myself explore my sexuality or gender identification. My concept for this Zine is to show how all parts of my life have formed my identity. I want to include my favorite artworks, my music taste, and my relations in an abstract and colorful way. I have always been drawn to more messy, abstract, and electric images (influenced by Travis Scott and his art mind). The Zine I made in the past (that is posted) is one of my favorites because of all the vibrant colors and chaoticness. I used images from Maisie Kane, who is a female digital artist that I found on TikTok. I have always loved making collages because they allow me to put down all of my ideas that are swirling in my head. I want my Zine to tell a story and hopefully allow the viewers to think about finding ways that better express themselves. I am so excited to use my new Photoshop and Photo Illustrator to make a digital zine for the first time!
